9-Ball League Rules

1. League rules are based on Texas Express Rules, Modified for handicap system.

2. LEGAL BREAK:
(a) The cue ball must be behind the headstring, (b) The cue ball must strike the one ball first, (c) Four object balls must hit a rail, unless an object ball is pocket. If a legal break does not occur, the incoming player may, (a) Accept table as is, (b) Take ball in hand, (c) Have balls re-racked with option to break or have opponent break again. NOTE: If the player breaking is spotting the opponent, the spot ball comes back on the spot in the case of any foul. All other balls stay down. (except the nine ball) If the player receiving the spot breaks, makes his spotted ball and fouls, the spotted ball remains down and opponent receives ball in hand. This also applies anytime during game.

3. LEGAL SHOT:
A legal shot occurs when the cue ball strikes the lowest numbered ball on the table first; and then drives any ball or cue ball to a rail. Failure to do so is a ball in hand foul.

4. PUSH OUT AFTER BREAK:
A push out may only be done on the first shot after the break. Player may sink or strike any ball during the push. All pocketed balls stay down (unless it is a spotted ball or nine ball). After the push the incoming player has the option to shoot or pass the shot back to the player who pushed. The push must be declared and the opponent must acknowledge. If you scratch the push it is a foul and the incoming player receives ball in hand. Neither ball has to hit a rail.

5. BALL OFF TABLE:
Any ball driven off the table is a foul. Spotted balls are placed on the spot, unless it was the player receiving the spot. The nine ball is also placed on the spot. All other balls stay down.

6. FROZEN OBJECT BALL:
If an object ball is ruled frozen to a rail; the cue ball must hit a rail after initial contact with object ball or drive the object ball or any other ball to a different rail after initial contact with cue ball. Frozen object balls must be declared by the opponent or referee before shooting.

7. SPORTMANSHIP RULINGS:
A player may have the referee or League Director to instruct a player to remain seated and quiet during an opponent’s turn at the table. Failure to do so after warning could result in loss of each game the rule is violated.

8. BREAKING DOWN CUE:
If a player breaks down their cue while opponent is at table it is loss of game. Changing shafts or cues should be announced.

9. 5 SECOND RULE:
If a legally attempted ball hangs in the pocket and falls within 5 seconds it is a legal shot provided the shooter is still at table. If the shooter leaves table the 5 second rule is waived. The object ball is replaced in position and shot passes to incoming player.

10. Any rules not covered in this rule sheet will then refer to BCA rule book
